Trends Relating To Botox

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. There was a time when people may have thought that botox was a trend that would disappear, but people now realize that it is not going anywhere.

You may have read about it in the news or even seen it on television - more and more celebrities are now using botox injections to maintain their young looks and skin. But the question on many people's mind is 'why is it so popular?' or 'what makes it such a sought after procedure?'

It's actually pretty easy to understand why. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. The entire procedure only takes a few minutes, is cheap and does not produce any scarring that may be associated with plastic surgery. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

What about Botox for Men?

It's a mistake for people to think that the only people out there getting botox treatments are women. This is far from the truth. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. Media outlets have come up with a term for this, and 'bro-tox' seems to fit the bill. In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

Changing trends

The use of botox is rising. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. This is not a shock to anyone. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. As time goes by, more and more people see this as an acceptable treatment method.

That is only part of the story. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. Results have been promising and outcomes have been excellent. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

There is no doubt that the future is bright for botox. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
